We all use energy every day – at home, at work and when we travel. To generate that energy, we burn fossil fuels (coal, oil and gas) that produce ’greenhouse’ gases – in particular carbon dioxide (CO2) – which are changing our climate and damaging the environment.

Energy prices have been on the increase for a couple of years now, with household gas and electricity prices up by as much as 30% since 2003, and believe it or not with crude oil prices at record levels, heating oil may cost over 50p/litre!

Save energy in your home

There are many simple ways to stop wasting energy. The Energy Savings Trust provides many tips and links to help you save energy and money

Locally the Home Energy Lincs Partnership (HELP) are offering householders the opportunity to insulate their home at a reduced rate.

Generate your own

Once you have reduced energy consumption as much as possible you might want to consider generating your own heat and/or electricity

There are now a number of schemes that can assist in financing

  • Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) is the first financial support scheme for renewable heat of its kind in the world.
  • FITs mean that energy suppliers have to (compulsory for big six suppliers) make regular payments to householders and communities who generate their own electricity from renewable or low carbon sources such as solar photovoltaic (PV) or wind turbines.
